Market surveillance system is automated and agnostic; alerts form basis for investigations: SEBI’s Kamlesh Varshney

SEBI’s market surveillance system is fully automated and agnostic, generating alerts whenever violations occur, irrespective of the individuals involved. Kamlesh Varshney, Whole Time Member at SEBI, said these alerts form the basis for further examination and investigation. The regulator has also set up a specialised team with NSE to strengthen F&O surveillance and is hiring experts to improve monitoring of complex trades.
